AFRICA SPELLING LEADERS' COMPETITION

DISTINGUISHING ON THE NATIONAL STAGE:

A CHRONICLE OF OUR CONQUEST AT THE SPELL AFRICA SPELLING LEADERS' COMPETITION

With our long-standing mission to provide world-class education to our treasured pupils and students, which positions them to thrive on the global stage, it is no surprise that our students distinguished themselves at a fiercely contested national spelling competition known as the Spelling Leaders' Competition organized by Spell Africa. They travelled, they fed their eyes, and they conquered like champions with victory in their DNA.

The journey to glory began in Ogun State, where we competed in the State's preliminary stage of the competition. 11 of our students participated, and impressively, all of them emerged unscathed, securing their places in the next stage. They joined 8 other students from various schools to represent Ogun State at the Preliminary of the Finals stage. In other words, out of the 19 qualifiers from Ogun State, 11 were from the great Good Shepherd Schools, which is a testament to our dominance.

Fast forward to the Preliminary of the Finals stage, which was no walk in the park, our students once again emerged triumphant. All 11 of them secured spots in the semi-finals of the national finals, which featured 450 students from 28 states across the federation. In an impressive fashion, they advanced alongside 125 students from other schools nationwide.

It is often said that the farther the journey, the tougher it becomes, and such was the case in the semi-finals of the national finals, where 136 students vied for a place in the grand finale. In this even more fiercely-contested stage, only 64 students were able to demonstrate exceptional spelling abilities under intense pressure— among them were four of our outstanding students.

At the final stage of the national competition, which featured 64 spellers, only 22 advanced to the next round by achieving a perfect score of 100% in spelling accuracy. Among these 22 were our beloved Akinpelumi Feyisara and Adegbuji Oluwatamilore, representing not only Ogun State but also the entire Southwest region.

After several rounds of intense spelling challenges, the flag of the great Good Shepherd Schools was hoisted on the national stage as Akinpelumi Feyisara clinched the position of the second runner-up, an achievement that earned her a scholarship worth ₦200,000.

To many, our stellar performance on the national stage may seem astonishing, but to us, it is simply the fruit of our enduring tradition of grooming children into godly achievers of world-class standards. At Good Shepherd Schools, excellence is not an option, it is a lifestyle.
